Track AI Engine Visibility
See whether ChatGPT and Gemini name and cite your business for the prompts your customers use, with visibility rate, share of voice and every response in full.
On this page
More and more customers ask an AI assistant for a local recommendation before they ever open Google. AI Engine Visibility shows you whether ChatGPT and Gemini name and cite your business in the responses they give to the prompts your customers actually use.
What it tracks and why it matters now
AI Engine Visibility watches the two assistants your customers increasingly use to find local providers: ChatGPT and Gemini. When someone asks "who's the best plumber in Manchester?", each returns a written response rather than a list of links. This feature tells you whether your business gets named, recommended or cited in that response, and how often you show up against everyone else.
Each engine has its own results, because they do not answer the same way. ChatGPT often names a shortlist of local businesses in its answer, which gives the fullest competitor picture. Gemini grounds its answers in Google's own index, which makes it the closest read on how the work you already do on your Google Business Profile, citations and content shows up in an AI answer. Every check puts the same prompts to both engines, so the two can be compared, and both are checked for the location you are measuring rather than nationally.
This matters because a recommendation inside an assistant often replaces the click that used to land on a search results page. If you are invisible there, you lose the customer before they even reach your website or your Google listing.
How your keywords become prompts
You do not have to guess what people type into an assistant. AI Engine Visibility turns the keywords you already track into the natural, conversational prompts a real customer would use, whether that's a question ("who's the best plumber in Leeds?") or a direct request ("find me a plumber in Leeds who can come out today"), so the data stays anchored to the terms that actually win you work. Each keyword starts with a couple of prompts drafted for you, and you can accept them, edit them, or add your own. The Coverage tab shows how much of your keyword set has prompts written.
That makes your keyword library the foundation of accurate tracking. The more closely your tracked keywords match your real services and locations, the more relevant the prompts become.
Tip: The exact prompts put to the engines are yours to control, and getting them right is the single biggest lever on how useful your results are. The same prompts go to both engines, so the comparison between them is like for like. See Choose the prompts AI Engine Visibility runs for how to add and shape them, and keep your terms tidy with Build your keyword library.
What the results show
Because these assistants answer in prose rather than an ordered list, there is no ranking position to report, so we never invent an "AI rank". Instead you get measures built for how responses actually work:
- Visibility rate: how often you are named or cited across the prompts put to each engine, reported per engine so you can see where you are strong and where you are missing.
- Share of voice: how often you show up compared with the other providers named for the same prompts, alongside a competitor leaderboard for each engine.
Each individual response is also sorted into one of four states, so you can see exactly how you featured: Shortlisted (named in the engine's list of options), Mentioned, Cited only (your site was used as a source but you were not named), or Absent. If you have several locations, a response that names a different one of them is marked Another of your locations rather than counted as a win. Because real customers phrase the same need in different ways, each keyword is put to the engine as more than one prompt, and the keyword table shows how many of them named you. You get a trend over time rather than a single, misleading snapshot, the full response saved word for word so you can read exactly what was said and who was named, and, where the engine cites its sources, the pages it trusted so you know what to strengthen.
The two engines will not always agree, and that is useful rather than a fault. Being named by one and missed by the other tells you the gap is with that engine's sources rather than with your business, and the cited pages on each show you which ones.
Where to find everything
Open a location to read its results. The tabs across the top are:
- Summary: visibility rate, share of voice, the trend over time, a keyword-by-keyword table and the competitors named instead of you.
- Presence: every response saved word for word, filtered by whether it named you, who was asking and how far along the customer was, plus the searches ChatGPT ran before answering (Gemini does not report its searches).
- Insights: how you do when customers mention a situation, why the engine picks who it picks, and the sites it read for its answers.
- Brand: what the engine says about you once someone asks about you by name.
- Coverage: the prompts for this location, and the button to run a check.
Use the switcher at the top of the page to move between ChatGPT and Gemini.
How it differs from Google Search Visibility
AI Engine Visibility and Google Search Visibility do different jobs, and you want both.
- Google Search Visibility covers Google's own surfaces: web results, the Local Pack, AI Overviews and Google's AI Mode. It reports true ranking positions for web results and the Local Pack. See Track rankings in Google Search Visibility.
- AI Engine Visibility covers the assistants themselves, ChatGPT and Gemini, and reports a visibility rate and share of voice, not a rank. Gemini appears in both places, and the difference matters: a Gemini-powered AI Overview sits on the Google results page, while the Gemini assistant is somewhere a customer goes directly.
Together they show the full picture: where you stand on Google, and where you stand when customers skip Google entirely.
Availability and cost
AI Engine Visibility is included on every plan, in the sidebar under Tracking. Each plan comes with a monthly allowance of AI visibility checks: 600 on Starter, 3,000 on Pro and 6,000 on Agency, with Enterprise set by contract. One check is one prompt put to one engine once. Checks you run yourself and scheduled checks both ask each prompt once. Schedules set up before 17 September 2026 ask each prompt three times, which the schedule's page shows as "× 3 samples". Your allowance resets with your plan each month. See How credits and quotas work.
Note: Prompts are written from the keywords you track at each location, so keeping your keyword library current is the best way to keep your results relevant.
