Local SEO for medical, dental and specialist practices

Healthcare search has layers a general local SEO plan can miss. A practice competes for 'dentist near me' and separately for every treatment it offers, clinicians can hold Google profiles in their own names, and every review reply has to respect patient confidentiality. Google's own quality guidelines also hold health information to a higher standard than most topics. SearchOps tracks each layer for every practice you run: rankings by treatment, the catchment each site wins, what AI assistants tell patients, and what patients say in reviews.

  • Rankings for each treatment, not just the practice name
  • Google Maps, Search, AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini
  • Reviews in one inbox, with replies drafted for you to check
  • Each practice tracked on its own, for groups and multi-site owners

The problem

The practice, its clinicians and every treatment compete separately

Google's guidelines let doctors and dentists hold their own Business Profiles, and where a clinician is the only public-facing practitioner at a branded location, Google asks for one shared profile named '[practice]: [practitioner]'. Add a separate set of results for every treatment, from implants to physiotherapy for back pain, and a practice's search presence becomes several listings and dozens of searches. Strength in one says little about the rest.

01

Treatment searches can each show different practices, so appearing for 'dentist near me' says little about 'dental implants' or 'Invisalign'.

02

Clinician and practice profiles can appear for the same search, so they need managing together.

03

Review replies are public, so they can't confirm that someone is a patient or discuss their care.

04

AI assistants answer questions such as which clinic is good with anxious patients, and the practices they name can differ from the ones on the map.

Questions SearchOps answers

What practice owners and marketing managers need to know

Growing new-patient numbers comes down to five questions, whether you manage one practice or a group. Each one below is answered by data SearchOps collects for every practice and clinician profile you track.

01Treatments

Do we show up for the treatments we want more of?

Track each high-value treatment as its own keyword, from implants and Invisalign to sports physio or skin checks. Google Search Visibility follows each one through the Map Pack, web results and AI Overviews, and geo-grid scans show how far across your catchment the practice appears for it.

Visibility by treatment, not just by practice name

02Catchment

Where do new patients find us, and where do they find someone else?

Scans show your Google Maps position from every point across the area you draw patients from, with the practices that appear ahead of you at each point. Map Insights compares you with those leaders on categories, reviews and listing details.

03AI answers

What do AI assistants tell patients who ask for a recommendation?

SearchOps asks ChatGPT and Gemini the questions patients ask, including for situations such as a nervous patient, a parent booking for a child or someone paying privately. You see how often your practice is recommended, who is named instead, how the answers describe you, and the directories and review sites they cite.

Your share of AI recommendations for the patients you want

04Reputation

What are patients praising, and what are they unhappy about?

New reviews from connected Google profiles arrive in one inbox, with sentiment grouped by topic, so you can see whether waiting times, the front desk or treatment results are moving the rating. The agent drafts replies for you to check before they're posted, and automatic replies stay off unless you switch them on.

05Results

Is our Google profile bringing in enquiries?

Connect each practice's Google Business Profile to see calls, website clicks and direction requests over time, and the searches that showed the listing. Changes and results shows whether a new service, updated hours or a fresh set of photos changed anything.

Use cases

Questions practices bring to the data

Illustrative examples from dental, medical and specialist practices, and the kind of answer SearchOps gives.

Dental group, four practicesToronto, Canada

Why does one of our practices get far fewer new patients than the others?

Scans for 'emergency dentist' and 'Invisalign' across each catchment show three practices in the top three across most of their areas, while the fourth drops out a few streets from its door. Map Insights shows the practices ahead of it have many more recent reviews, which points to a gap at one site rather than a problem with the whole group.

Physiotherapy clinicSydney, Australia

When someone asks ChatGPT for a sports physio nearby, are we mentioned?

AI visibility checks put questions like 'who's a good sports physio in the eastern suburbs' to ChatGPT and Gemini. The clinic is mentioned but not recommended, two rivals are recommended for running injuries, and the answers cite a health directory where the clinic has no listing. That gives the clinic a concrete place to start.

Private GP clinicLondon, UK

Which of our services do people actually find us for?

Rank tracking for each service, such as private GP appointments, health checks and travel vaccinations, shows the clinic in the Map Pack for one and nowhere for the others, and whether an AI Overview answers above the results. The services that matter most but rank worst become the priority.

Dermatology practiceDubai, UAE

Our rating has dipped. What are patients unhappy about?

Review sentiment grouped by topic shows praise for results and doctors holding steady, while comments about waiting times have turned negative. The fix is operational, and replying to those reviews carefully, without discussing anyone's care, shows future patients the practice is listening.

FAQ

Healthcare. Questions we get

Start with the profile and the reviews. Choose the category that describes the practice ('Dentist', with 'Cosmetic dentist' only if that is genuinely what it is), list each treatment as a service, keep hours and holiday hours accurate, and build a steady flow of genuine reviews, which Google names as part of prominence. SearchOps then shows which treatments and neighbourhoods each practice appears for, and which practices appear instead.

SearchOps reads public reviews and your own Business Profile data, and never touches patient records. Replies you send from SearchOps are published on Google, so treat every reply as public: don't confirm that the reviewer is a patient or mention their care, and keep any automatic replies generic. Your practice remains responsible for meeting HIPAA, GDPR and your regulator's confidentiality rules.

Keep replies general. Thank the reviewer, don't confirm they are a patient or refer to their treatment, and invite them to contact the practice directly about anything specific. Regulators have fined practices for replies that disclosed patient information. In SearchOps the agent drafts replies for you to check before they're posted, and automatic replies stay off unless you switch them on.

Yes. Keywords are unlimited on every plan, so you can track each treatment at each practice, from implants to hygiene appointments. What uses your allowance is how often you check them, and you can check the treatments that matter most more often.

Yes. Each practice is its own tracked location with its own scans, rankings, AI visibility and reviews, and a report can include several practices side by side. Starter tracks up to 10 locations, Pro 50 and Agency 200.

We don't track rankings inside directories. We track Google and the answers AI assistants give when patients ask them. AI Sources shows which directories and review sites those answers cite, so you can see whether a health directory is shaping who gets recommended.

When a patient asks an assistant for a recommendation, the answer names a few practices and leaves the rest out. SearchOps shows how often yours is named, for which kinds of patient, how it is described and which sources the answers relied on. We report visibility and share of voice rather than a rank, because these answers change from one run to the next.
