Keywords & rank tracking
See which sites AI answers rely on (AI Sources)
AI Sources, which replaced the Citation Manager, shows which websites Google's AI results, ChatGPT and Gemini cite for your keywords, where to get listed, and the sites in your Google results.
On this page
When Google's AI results or an AI assistant answer a question about your kind of business, they lean on other websites to decide what to say. AI Sources shows you which sites those are for each of your locations, how often you are cited yourself, and where your competitors are showing up while you are not.
Where AI Sources lives
In the sidebar, open Analysis > AI Sources (/dashboard/ai-sources) and pick a location.
AI Sources is built from the answers SearchOps has already checked for you, so the more you track, the fuller the picture gets.
Note: Sources appear once rank tracking or AI Engine Visibility has run for the location. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode come from your rank checks (AI Mode is checked for locations in the US, the UK and India), and ChatGPT and Gemini come from your AI visibility checks.
What you see
At the top, choose which answers to include and over what period:
- Answer type (on the AI answers tab): All answers, AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT or Gemini, each with the number of answers checked.
- Time window: the last 30, 90 or 180 days.
The summary shows how many answers were checked, how often your own website was cited, whether your Google Business Profile was cited, and how many different sources appeared.
Where to get listed or mentioned
This is the list to act on. It shows directories, articles and other third-party sites that were cited in answers where at least one competitor appeared and you did not, ranked by how often that happened. Your own site and your competitors' own websites are never included.
If a directory keeps appearing here, getting a complete, accurate listing on it is usually the quickest win. If an article or round-up keeps appearing, that is a site worth building a relationship with.
Every source cited
The full table lists every site cited in the answers you have selected, most cited first:
- Source: the site, links to the pages that were cited, and the competitors it appeared with.
- Type: website, Google Business Profile, directory or article, marked as yours or a competitor's where it belongs to one.
- Cited on: which answer types cited it, and how many times each.
- Keywords and Answers: across how many of your keywords it was cited, and in how many answers.
- You too: how often the answers that cited it also mentioned you.
- Last seen: when it was last cited.
Search by site, page title or keyword, or filter by Yours, Directories, Articles, Competitors, Other websites or Other.
Tip: Counts are answers we checked, not clicks or traffic. They tell you what the answer engines trust for your keywords, which is the input you can influence.
Google results
Switch to the Google results tab to see the sites that appear in Google's web results for the keywords you track: directories, review sites, articles and your competitors' websites. For each site you see how many of your keywords it appears for, its best position, how often it reaches the top 10, and whether AI answers cite it too.
Directories and review sites that rank for your keywords are places your business should be listed. The ones AI answers also cite matter twice, because they shape both what searchers see and what AI answers say. The tab also shows how many of your tracked keywords have your own site in the top 10.
Note: Google results reads the latest rank check for each tracked keyword in the time window you choose.
