Why a scan says Finishing up, and how refunds work

Finishing up, retries for missing points, per-point credit refunds, full refund when under half the grid answers, the Partial scan banner, and scheduled scans.

Last reviewed October 20262 min read

A geo-grid scan asks Google the same search from every point on the grid. Now and then Google doesn't answer some of those points the first time. When that happens, SearchOps keeps trying for you, and you only ever pay for the points that came back.

What "Finishing up" means

If some points are missing, the scan shows Finishing up your scan, with how many points are in so far. SearchOps asks again for just the missing points, a few times, spaced out over about 20 minutes. Most gaps fill in within a few minutes.

You don't need to do anything. Please don't start a new scan while it finishes: you won't be charged twice either way, but the original scan will complete on its own.

How it can end

  • Every point answered. The scan completes as normal.
  • A few points still missing after every try. The scan completes without them, and the credits for those points are refunded. A note under the headline figures says how many points couldn't be fetched and how many credits came back. Those pins have a dashed outline and are labelled Not fetched.
  • Fewer than half the points answered. The scan fails rather than show you a thin map, and every credit is refunded. Select Run this scan again to try it with the same settings.

Points that weren't fetched are never counted as places you don't rank. Every figure on the scan, such as Top 3 or the share of points where AI Mode named you, counts only the points that answered.

Scheduled scans

Scans from a schedule follow exactly the same rules: missing points are asked again, any still missing are refunded, and a scan with fewer than half its points answered is refunded in full. You don't need to re-run anything by hand.

Older scans

Scans run before October 2026 may show a Partial scan banner instead of the refund note. It means some points couldn't be reached at Google when that scan ran. As with newer scans, the figures above it count only the points that answered.

Will I ever be charged twice?

No. Retrying a missing point is part of the original scan, and re-running a failed scan starts fresh after a full refund. You can check every charge and refund under Usage & Billing.
