Troubleshooting
Why a scan can't find my business
The usual reasons your business doesn't appear in scan results, and how to fix them.
On this page
If a scan shows you as missing or unranked everywhere, it almost always means SearchOps cannot match your business to a result on the map, not that you have vanished from Google. Here are the common causes, in the order worth checking.
1. The location is not matched to a real listing
This is by far the most common cause. A scan recognises you first by the Google Place ID attached to your location. If the location was typed in by hand, or imported by CSV without a Place ID, scans fall back to matching your website address and then your business name. That is less reliable, and it can miss you if your Google listing uses a different name or website.
Fix: On the Locations page, look for a Fix Place IDs button. It only appears when some of your locations have no Place ID, and it shows how many. Run it to look them up on Google. If a location still will not match, re-add it and pick your business from the Google suggestions. See Add your first location.
Tip: A quick test: add your business name plus town as a keyword on the location (in Keyword Research, select Add keywords), then run a small 3x3 scan for it. If your own name does not find you, it is a matching problem, not a ranking problem.
2. The listing is not live on Google Maps
If the listing is not live on Google Maps (for example it is suspended, unpublished or still waiting for verification), it will not appear in local results, so nothing can match it.
Fix: Sort out the listing in Google Business Profile first, then scan again.
3. You genuinely do not rank there yet
If the location is matched and live but still absent at most points, that can be real and useful data: you do not yet rank for that term in those areas.
Scans read the top 20 businesses at each point. If you are 21st or lower, the pin is grey and the map key calls it Not in top 20. A grey pin marked No results here means Google showed no businesses at all for that search at that spot.
Fix: Treat it as your baseline. Improve the listing with a profile audit, then re-scan over time to watch visibility grow.
4. The keyword or coverage is working against you
Question-style phrases (what, how, why) often do not trigger Maps results, and a very wide grid will naturally show nothing at the far edges.
Fix: Use a service-style keyword a customer would actually type, and centre a sensible coverage area on your real service area. See Run your first geo-grid scan.
5. The scan failed, or only partly ran
A failed scan returns no rankings. SearchOps refunds the credits automatically and marks the scan as failed, with a Run this scan again button. A scan can also finish with some points Google could not be reached for. Those pins have a dashed outline and are labelled Not fetched, and a Partial scan note tells you how many. They are not counted as places you do not rank.
Fix: Run it again. If it keeps failing, contact support with the scan details.
