Keywords & rank tracking

Track your competitors

See every rival you meet across scans, Search and ChatGPT merged into one scoreboard, with their traffic, keywords, the gaps you can close, and changes to rival listings.

Different tools show you different rivals: the businesses that win the Map Pack are not always the ones that outrank you on Google, and neither may be the ones ChatGPT recommends. Competitors pulls all of them into one place, so you see the full field contesting your local market instead of three separate lists.

Where Competitors lives

In the sidebar, open Analysis > Competitors (/dashboard/competitors).

Pick a location or a group at the top. For a location, Rivals shows the pool of rivals SearchOps has seen for that business, merged from every tool you already use, and Changes shows changes to their listings. For a group with several branches, you see every branch side by side: its share of voice, how that changed, how many rivals are ahead, and its toughest rival. Open a branch to go into its detail.

How the pool fills up

You do not add competitors by hand. SearchOps watches who appears alongside you across three surfaces and folds them into one scoreboard:

  • Geo-Grid Scans surface who wins the Map Pack across your area.
  • Google Search Visibility surfaces who ranks above you in web results and the local pack.
  • AI Engine Visibility surfaces who ChatGPT names when it is asked about your services.

So the more you track a location, the more complete its competitor pool becomes. If a location is new, you will see prompts to start tracking it with a scan, a rank check, or a ChatGPT question. If you already track it elsewhere, choose Refresh from tracking to pull the latest rivals in from that data.

Note: A competitor only enters the pool because it appeared next to you in real results. This is the field you are actually competing with, not a generic industry list.

Read the scoreboard

The Rivals tab reads top to bottom:

  • Where you stand: your best position in the Map Pack and Google Search, your share of ChatGPT answers, and how many rivals sit in front of you in each.
  • What changed: rivals gaining on you, rivals that just arrived, and rivals falling back, over the last 30 days against the 30 before.
  • Share of voice: the percentage of appearances that are yours rather than a competitor's.
  • Who's beating you: the recurring rivals taking the most channels from you.
  • Threat leaderboard: every rival with a threat score from 0 to 100, how much of your map grid it holds in the top 3, its Google Search rank, its share of ChatGPT answers and its total sightings. Arrows show whether it is ahead of or behind you. Sort by threat, fastest rising, appearances, most recent or name. Filter by channel, show only rivals ahead of you, active in the last 30 days or pinned, or search for one by name.

Tip: The leaderboard starts on Rivals that matter: businesses seen more than once, in more than one tool, or pinned by you. Switch to Everyone seen to include one-off sightings.

See what changed

The Changes tab lists changes to rival listings near you, read from your geo-grid scans:

  • Listing details: a new business name, main category, address, phone number or website, and whether the listing is claimed.
  • Rating and reviews: a rating that moves by 0.2 or more, and a sudden jump or drop in review count.
  • Top 3: a business moving into, or dropping out of, the top 3 for one of your keywords.

A listing change only appears once a second scan confirms it, and a top 3 move is judged across three scans, so one unusual scan never shows up as news. Choose the last 30, 90 or 180 days.

Tip: A rival that renames its listing to include a keyword is worth a closer look. Open Map Insights and check Listing checks.

Dig into one competitor

Open any competitor (select Analyse on its row) to see where it beats you. Badges show which surfaces it appears on, and Head to head compares it with you in the Map Pack, Google Search and ChatGPT over the last 30 days. Below that, How this has moved charts the trend, Where you meet lists the searches you both appear for and who leads, Review velocity compares review growth, and Where we've seen them lists every sighting. Use Add to tasks to turn what you find into work.

Further down, Their wider footprint looks beyond your own results at the competitor's whole website. Because this runs a fresh lookup, it is pulled on demand: choose Analyse (or Refresh to update it later). The result is kept for a month. When it is ready you will see:

  • Est. monthly visits, Est. traffic value, Ranked keywords and Referring domains (with domain authority) for their site, plus the top keywords they rank for.
  • A keyword gap table: the keywords they rank for and you do not, with search volume and their position, so you can see exactly where to compete.

The wider footprint needs to know the competitor's website. If SearchOps has not matched a domain to that rival yet, the panel will say so, and the rest of the page still works.

What Competitors does not do

Competitors is for analysis, not outreach or automation. It shows you who you are up against and where they are strong so you can decide where to invest. To act on the gaps, use the rest of SearchOps: close the keyword gaps through your keyword library, see where AI engines name them through AI Engine Visibility, and keep improving the profile behind your Map Pack ranking with a Google Business Profile audit.
