Getting started

Add your first location

Add a business location so SearchOps can match it in scans and rankings.

A location is the business you want to track. Adding one tells SearchOps exactly which business to look for in scans and rankings. Getting this right is the single most important setup step, because it is what lets a scan recognise which result on the map is you.

Add a location

You need a plan before you can add a location. If you have not chosen one yet, SearchOps takes you to the plan picker first.

  1. In the dashboard, go to Locations.
  2. Select Add location. This opens the Add New Location page.
  3. Start typing the business name in the Business Name field. As you type, Google Places suggestions appear.
  4. Pick your business from the suggestions. This is the important part. When you select a suggestion, SearchOps fills in the address, category, phone, website, and the precise map coordinates for you, and shows a green "Auto-filled from Google Places" confirmation.
  5. Check the details and select Save Location.
  6. Pick the keywords to track. Choose Find my best keywords to have SearchOps read your Google listing and website and suggest keywords for your area, or I already know mine to paste in your own. You can also skip this and add keywords later.
  7. On the You're set up screen, read the prompts SearchOps will ask ChatGPT and Gemini for each keyword. You can change how far up the funnel to measure, edit any prompt or add more keywords. Nothing is charged until you run a check.

The fields you will see are Business Name (required), Full Address (required), Category, Phone Number, and Website. Only the name and address are required, but add the website if you can: SearchOps uses it to spot your business in results.

Important: Always choose the business from the Google Places suggestions rather than only typing it in by hand. Selecting the suggestion attaches the listing's Place ID, which is the link that lets scans and profile audits identify you. If you type the business in by hand, SearchOps tries to find the Place ID in the background, but picking the suggestion is the reliable way.

Why the right match matters

Behind the scenes, a scan looks at the businesses ranking at each point on the map and matches yours by its Place ID and name. If your saved location is not linked to a real Google listing, your ranking will look missing even when you are actually showing up. See Why a scan can't find my business if that happens.

Importing many locations at once

If you add locations in bulk with Import CSV, SearchOps matches each new location to Google in the background to find its Place ID. If any cannot be matched, a Fix Place IDs button appears on the Locations page with a count. Select it to try again, and wait about a minute before scanning so every location is recognisable.

Tip: Managing a multi-location brand? Import them all, run Fix Place IDs if the button appears, and they are ready to scan together.

How many locations can I add?

Your location allowance depends on your plan: Starter tracks 10, Pro 50, Agency 200, and Enterprise is sized to your estate. A tracked location can be any business, not only one you own, so many of them can be competitors and prospects rather than your own branches. If you hit the limit, SearchOps prompts you to upgrade. See the pricing page for current numbers.
