Keywords & rank tracking

Track rankings in Google Search Visibility

Track your position over time across Google's web results, the local pack, and AI surfaces, and see how often search features such as AI Overviews show for your keywords.

Google Search Visibility tracks where you show up on Google over time, so you can see whether the keywords that bring in revenue are gaining or slipping. It watches Google's own surfaces in one place: web results, the Local Pack, AI Overviews, and Google's AI Mode.

Where it lives

You will find it in the sidebar under Tracking > Google Search Visibility, or go straight to Google Search Visibility. The overview lists your business locations, each with a snapshot of its latest check. Click into a location to see every tracked keyword, then click a keyword to open its full history.

What it tracks

For each keyword we report four Google surfaces:

  • Web Results Rank: where your website ranks in Google's normal (non-paid) web results, also called organic rank.
  • Local Pack: whether your business appears in the map listing shown for local searches.
  • AI Overviews and AI Mode: Google's synthesised answers. There is no rank to win here, so we never invent a position. Instead we report how often you are cited and which sources Google drew from. AI Mode is checked for locations in the US, the UK and India.

Checks run on desktop and mobile together, so you can see how the picture differs by device.

Adding keywords to track

Keywords come from your keyword library, the terms you track for each location. Add or import them from Keyword Research, and use Add across multiple locations when several branches need the same terms. There is no limit on how many you track.

Note: What your plan meters is checking, not tracking: one keyword looked up is one rank check, whether you ran it or a schedule did. See Rank checks explained for the numbers on your plan.

For the full walkthrough, see Build your keyword library.

Reading the trend over time

Open any keyword to see its history as a chart. Switch the lookback window between 7 days, 30 days, 90 days and 1 year to spot movement at the right zoom level. You can step back through individual checks to compare a single day's result, including which competitors sat above you and which sources the AI surfaces cited.

Tip: A drop in web results rank with steady Local Pack appearance often points to a content or page issue rather than a local one. Reading both surfaces side by side helps you tell them apart.

Search features over time

On a location, the Search features section shows which features appear on Google's results for your tracked keywords, such as AI Overviews, the Local Pack and People Also Ask, and how often. The chart follows each feature week by week, counting each keyword once per device per week, so a keyword checked daily does not outweigh one checked weekly.

When AI Overviews or the Local Pack start showing for more of your keywords, the surface that matters for those keywords changes too. For AI Overviews and the Local Pack, the chart also shows how often you are in them.

Keeping it fresh

You can run a check on demand from a location, or set a schedule so checks repeat automatically and your trend lines stay current without you remembering to refresh them. Manage repeats from the Schedules button on the overview.

How it differs from our other tools

Google Search Visibility is only about Google. Two neighbouring tools answer different questions:

  • Geo-Grid Scans check your Google Maps ranking from every point on a grid around a location, so you can see how visibility changes street by street. See Run your first geo-grid scan.
  • AI Engine Visibility checks whether ChatGPT and Gemini name you for real customer questions, not Google rankings. See Track AI Engine Visibility.
